The Pantry: Trail Mix

When we were planning for our road trip to Florida, one of the things on the must-do list was to pack our survival snack box.  I’m sorry, but you can’t be in the car for twelve hours without something on which you can snack.  So, in the box went the usual Ritz crackers, Pop Tarts, Nutrigrain Bars.  I wanted to do something a little different this time, so I made up a quick batch of trail mix.  Ultimately, it ended up being the only snack that we consumed on the trip.

I’ve listed what I used to make it up, but I’m sure you can go generic and it’ll be just as good.  I also think this would be great if you substituted yogurt flavored Cheerios , Raisinets,  Reese’s Pieces, pretzel sticks–you get the idea–for some of the ingredients.

We packed a 1/2 cup measuring cup and several sandwich sized zip-top bags in the container for easy serving.

Trail Mix

Ingredients

5 cups Multi-Grain Cheerios

1 & 1/2 cups plain M & M’s

2 cups Dry Roasted Peanuts

1 & 1/2 cups Honey Roasted Peanuts

1  cup Cocoa Roasted Almonds

1 & 1/2 cups Raisins

Directions:

Layer ingredients in a larger container (mine is a 16 cup container) and shake to combine.

25 servings (1/2 cup each)
