TDG: My List

Lately, I’ve been working on “My List.”  It’s sort of a “things I should know how to do” mixed with “things I’ve always wanted to do” kind of list.

1) Use My Camera Manually

I often use the manual focus, and I have used the function that lets me control just the shutter speed and just the aperture.  Thing is, I think it’s high time I learned how to do things on my own, so I’ve been experimenting.

This was one of my first attempts:

My manual photography attempt here also goes with the second thing on my list.

2) Try New Foods

Those are loquats, and they were picked fresh from a tree in my mom’s most awesome garden.  We ate them out-of-hand– mostly because I couldn’t decide what to do with them.  They have the texture of a pear, are juicy like a peach, and have a definite lemony bite to them.  The loquats were easy to peel, but most of the middle contains large seed, which I understand are poisonous.

I also made a plum upside down cake, which was certainly something new for me (recipe coming soon).

3) Learn to Make Bread

When I was in elementary school, a friend’s mother always had fresh bread baking.   Or maybe it just seemed like she was always baking it.  It was one of those things that just sort of stuck with me as something I wanted to be able to do, too.

Last summer, we attempted to make cinnamon rolls and pizza dough.  We totally failed on both counts.  A couple of weeks ago, I decided it was time to try again.  So after a lot of tutorial reading and YouTube watching, I settled on a couple of recipes and gave ’em a go.

I made Challah Bread– don’t ask me why.  I’d never even had Challah bread before I made it.

We turned all of that lovely bread into French Toast with Blackberry Sauce and Lemon Butter:

And I made doughnuts.

I’m still working on the write-ups for all of those, so stay-tuned.

4) Travel

This isn’t really anything new.  I’ve said before how much I’d like to travel– both far away and locally.  Here, though, I’m talking about world-travel.  It’s on my list, and I really think that at almost 36 years old it’s time I do something about it.

Really, that’s about it. Today’s post isn’t really light or humorous, but it is what it is.

Until we meet again….

  1. Oh my goodness–that upside down plum cake looks gorgeous and delicious! I’m *so* envious! That challah bread looks good as well.
