The Summer Run-Down

To call it a busy summer would be a serious understatement this year.  In fact, today is the first day in weeks that I’ve taken the time to sit still.  Of course, that could have something to do with the fact that I pulled some muscles in my back yesterday– was I doing something fun like swimming or cycling or playing with the kids?  No.  No, I was putting a 40 lb. box of kitty litter into a shopping cart.  Yay, me!  I should probably remember that I’m inching my way closer to middle age on a daily basis, huh?

Either way, in addition to all of that swimming and cycling, there have been sunny mornings spent picking blueberries

and partly cloudy afternoons playing in the sprinkler.

There were evenings spent preparing for our 4th of July gathering / parental anniversary party

that sometimes took me well into the night.

And then there was that final decorating class where I did a fairly decent job of learning to write with icing,

and a not-so-decent job of making ribbon roses.  Not only do I fail at making them, I also fail at taking pictures of those failures.

I did, however, begin to decorate a 5-1/2-inch tall monstrosity of an anniversary cake for my folks during class,

which I ultimately finished at home

despite having to redo the decorations three or four times over the course of the next twelve hours.

I have a ways to go, but, hey, practice make permanent, right?

And since I’m stuck on the couch with my poor, sad, sore back, I’ve got nothing but time to work on posts about our last course 1 class, our first course 2 class,

blueberry picking,

and that super giant cake (which– oh my goodness, have I got a not-to-be-missed white cake recipe to share with you).

Hope you had a fantastic 4th!
